In the 2022 New Year Honours list Tom Daley was awarded an OBE in recognition of his charity work, his advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community and of course for his sporting career, representing the UK with some spectacular and historical diving wins. Tom has won 3 medals for the UK in the Olympics over the course of his career.
A Knighthood is one of the highest honours in the United Kingdom. The title is granted by the King or a member of the Royal Family for significant contributions to society.
If Tom Daley accepts the honour, he will be invited to an investiture ceremony, where he will be ceremonially “dubbed”, with the King or a member of the Royal Family laying a sword blade on his right, and then left shoulder. Once knighted, he will then be entitled to use the title ‘Sir’ before his first name.
On Wednesday morning, Awards Intelligence’s Head of Communications, Lesley Hussell spoke with LBC news about Tom Daley and the honours system in general, along with discussion on how someone might be eligible for a Knighthood. You can listen to the interview HERE
