The categories

There are four categories for the King’s Award for Enterprise, spanning a range of industries and disciplines. The recipients in each category are extremely diverse, yet all represent the very best of business in the United Kingdom.

Innovation

Innovation is the beating heart of progress, and an integral component of the UK’s economic growth. Those awarded in this category are recognised as essential to the expansion of the UK’s reputation as business leaders.

Previous winners of the Innovation category:

Gripple

As an innovator and manufacturer of wire joining and tensioning devices, Gripple consistently raise standards in their field. Awarded in the Innovation category on three separate occasions, Gripple have cemented their reputation as a future leader of anchoring, bracing and suspension systems. Additionally, the organisation has been recognised for excellence in sustainable development, having already achieved carbon neutrality, which is the first step towards their ‘Journey to Climate Positive’.

Frugalpac

Frugalpac has also been awarded in the Innovation category for its paper bottles that boast a carbon footprint six times lower than glass bottles, in addition to using 77% less plastic than plastic bottles. Frugalpac is leading the way in the drinks industry, truly disrupting the packaging standards for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

International trade

The International Trade category celebrates enterprises that contribute to the United Kingdom’s position as a global leader in international commerce.

Fever-Tree Drinks

This London-based company has been awarded for their outstanding continuous growth in the International Trade category, operating in more than 90 countries globally and growing significantly in profitability over the last six years. Its commitment to sourcing of premium quality botanicals to produce its world-class flavours is what sets Fever-Tree Drinks apart.

Alchemy Technology Services

Alchemy Technology Services’ expansive development in insurance software implementation has been awarded under the International Trade category.

Sustainable development

Sustainable development is an integral pillar of modern society, as the impact of climate change and other environmental challenges continues to expand.

Previous winner of the Sustainable Development category:

Vyta

Vyta offers comprehensive, sustainable and secure solutions that encompass the entirety of the IT lifecycle. Operating in 50 countries globally, the organisation prevents waste from devices through recycling and processing, their 2023 initiative refurbished 450,000 devices, and as a result, prevented almost 40,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Their outstanding efforts towards creating a more sustainable future have been rightly recognised by this award, encouraging other businesses to innovate their practices in the same way.

Promoting Opportunity through Social Mobility

Due to the remaining prevalence of inequality in social mobility, this category works to set the standard for business enterprises to become increasingly diverse and promote equality in all aspects of their practices.

Timpson

Timpson hires 10% of their workforce directly from prisons, one of the largest employers of ex-offenders in the UK and widely regarded as one of the most inclusive businesses in the UK. They also employ other marginalised groups that face challenges concerning employment, including military veterans, individuals who have been through the care system, refugees and people who are neurodivergent. The organisation was proud to be named one of the most inclusive businesses in the United Kingdom and they have high hopes that through winning this award, they will inspire other organisations to implement similar initiatives.
