I think it's fair to say there's some amazing people in the upper house, but the vast majority made their mark in life and in business some ten, 20, even 30 years ago now. The average age in there is over 70. Many are in their mid to late 80s and beyond. So they can be forgiven for not being at the cutting edge of some of the pressing issues of the day, whether that be AI, cyber security, crypto, blockchain, global warming, the economy. And the reason that that's important is that a key role of a peer, of course, is to scrutinise draft legislation before it becomes law. But you can't scrutinise what you don't understand.
