QUEEN'S AWARDS FOR ENTERPRISE: INTERNATIONAL TRADE CATEGORY
The Queen's Awards for Enterprise is the most prestigious business awards programme in the world, and as you would expect, securing a coveted Queen's Award title is not easy. Read on to find out more about what the judges are looking for in each category and see if you've got what it takes to become a winner...
WHAT DOES ‘INTERNATIONAL TRADE’ MEAN FOR THE QUEEN’S AWARDS?
The International Trade category of the Queen’s Awards is also often referred to by its traditional name, the Queen’s Award for Export.
This category welcomes entries from organisations based in the UK who have been successfully growing their sales overseas - whether that's in one or more foreign markets.
Entering the International Trade category is recommended if your organisation has grown year on year in sales, turnover and profit, specifically if that growth has been driven by your international trading strategy.
The Queen’s Awards recognise those who have had a clear business strategy for entering new markets abroad, have overcome the challenges faced by exporters, and have defined their on going methods for continued success.
You can be selling either products or services, but there is an additional requirement for entry to this category; you must be able to show sales of at least £100,000.00 in the first year of entry.
Can you demonstrate how your organisation is excelling in your marketplace overseas? Have you identified your new markets clearly and created a clear path to delivery of your products or services outside of the UK? And have you maintained and upheld the highest principals of social, economic and environmental activity whilst growing your market? If so you could tick all the boxes for this award.
Entries must be made in one of the following sub-categories:
Outstanding Achievement (with growth maintained over 3 years) or
Continuous Achievement (with growth maintained over 6 years)
Entries are made up to the end of the last financial year before September 2019.
Note: If you have a dip in your commercial performace one year you should avoid entering over that period as the awards are looking for continued growth - for example if your figures fell in year 4, avoid this by entering over just 3 years. If you cannot avoid showing the dip then you will not be eligible to enter this year.
There are over 100 awards given in this category on average across the regions of the UK, many more than in the Innovation, Sustainable Development or Social Mobility categories, but this is also relative to the number of entries received. Here are some examples of recent winners:
HiBreeds International Ltd (pictured above) is a hatching egg exporter for the UK poultry industry, acting as intermediary for UK farmers and international clients.
Sepura is a global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of digital radios, systems and applications developed specifically for business and mission critical communications.
Seafast Logistics Ltd provide Worldwide Shipping and Air-Freight solutions, individually designed to meet customer requirements and based in challenging locations.
It's noon on 9th September 2020, but it can take many weeks to pull the information you need together for such a rigorous award, so don't leave it to late to give yourself a fighting chance, get started today!

OUR CLIENTS' THOUGHTS
WHY SHOULD YOU APPOINT AWARDS INTELLIGENCE?
An Awards Intelligence nomination is special. Not only will we save you a great deal of time and hassle, our experts will significantly increase the nominee's chances of success.
Honours Selection Committees judge a candidate's merits based on the nomination put forward. Our nominations are not simply an extended CV, a list of educational achievements, appointments, awards or posts, or a job description. Poor nominations often list these things, and a frequent complaint from the Committees judging the nominations is that the person recommended is "doing no more than their paid job".
Instead, our nominations define what is special about the candidates' achievements and show accurately, memorably and persuasively exactly how and where they have made a difference.
