Q: What are the tricks of the Trade when writing an award entry?

You may think writing a successful business award entry is a piece of cake, but you’d be wrong! To stand out from the crowd and convince a panel of judges that you or your business is best in class is no mean feat. Luckily we have some handy pointers for you.

This is the first in a new series to help you raise your game with your business award entries, and we welcome your feedback.

Step one – it’s not rocket science

1. It may sound obvious, but the golden rule is be smart about the awards you choose to enter. There are literally hundreds to choose from so be sure to pick the awards that you have the best chance of winning based on your strengths, rather than awards that have simply been recommended to you. We know from our vast experience of helping our clients to find, enter and win awards that choosing the right awards based on your strengths will increase your chances of winning by about 20% before you even put pen to paper. Be honest about what you are good at and how you can demonstrate your strengths to the judges.
When reading an entry, the judges consider various elements that need to be included. You do, of course, need to consider the category you are entering and only apply the points that are applicable to your case.
