Trusted advice from our awards experts

As well as British honours we can also help you to nominate someone for international awards such as Australian or New Zealand honours.

It is important to remember that honours cannot be bought; they are available to all. We do not lobby for honours and the Cabinet Office does not endorse or favour the use of professional drafting services but monitors which nominations have been professionally written and ensures that all nominations received are assessed on an equal and transparent basis.

We therefore ensure that when our experts draft your nomination it is comprehensive, factual and evidence-based. Using our Queen's honours service does not guarantee your nominee an honour, but the depth of research undertaken in putting your nomination together helps the honours committees formulate their decision based upon a thorough, accurate and relevant presentation of the nominee's merits and achievements.

Each honours list contains a wide variety of people from different backgrounds and anyone can receive an award if they reach the required standard of merit or service.

Already honoured or not yet on the honours list? Anyone can be re-nominated for an honour or nominated for a higher level honour, so long as at least two years have passed since the original nomination, and there is a clear difference between the first nomination and the next - for example new work or achievements are clearly cited and evidenced.

As the honours website says, anyone can be nominated, but only exceptional people are honoured. So if you want to see yourself or your candidate on the honours list, make sure your nomination has what it takes to make it all the way to Buckingham Palace by ensuring that the nomination form and letters of support contain accurate and detailed information and are of the highest possible standard.

Achievement comes in many forms but honours committees are looking for someone who has made a real difference in their field of work or community.

Honours can be awarded for all sorts of work - paid or unpaid - but you or your nominee must still be involved in the activity for which they are nominated. If you know someone that might be eligible for an honour but they are thinking of retiring or changing their role in the next few years, get them nominated sooner rather than later!

Before you make a nomination, ask yourself, has the nominee:

  • Made a difference to their community or field of work?
  • Brought distinction to British life and enhanced its reputation?
  • Exemplified the best sustained and selfless voluntary service?
  • Demonstrated innovation and entrepreneurship?
  • Carried the respect of their peers?
  • Changed things, with an emphasis on achievement?
  • Improved the lot of those less able to help themselves?
  • Displayed moral courage and vision in making and delivering tough choices?

It takes around 12 - 18 months for a nomination to be considered.

Nominations are collated and then segregated according to the nominee's area of expertise. Expert committees then compare like with like - for instance, teacher with teacher - and the best candidates are put forward to the Prime Minister, who presents the list to The Queen.

Once The Queen has given her informal approval, letters are sent to each nominee asking whether they would be willing to accept the proposed award. Once they have replied a final list is submitted to The Queen for formal approval.

Honours lists are published twice a year at New Year and in mid-June on the date of The Queen's official birthday.

Has the nominee:

  • Made a difference to their community or field of work?
  • Brought distinction to US life and enhanced its reputation?
  • Exemplified the best sustained and selfless voluntary service?
  • Demonstrated innovation and entrepreneurship?
  • Carried the respect of their peers?
  • Changed things, with an emphasis on achievement?
  • Improved the lot of those less able to help themselves?

Receiving a Queen’s honour can help your nominee raise awareness of their excellent work, build on their successes and keep giving back to their industry, to society and to the community. So getting them the recognition they deserve is an important task to get right!

  • Do you know someone who may be deserving of a Queen's honour but you don't know if they meet all the right criteria?
  • Do you have a busy life without the spare time to commit to gathering the right evidence and material for such a high-level award?
  • Does your nominee already have an honour but you think they could now be eligible for a higher level nomination?
  • Do you want your nomination to have the best possible chance of success in the Queen's Honours List?

If you answered "yes" to one or more of these questions contact us today for all the expert help and guidance you need to ensure your nominee has the best possible chance of Queen's honours success.

Not only do individuals receive the personal recognition they deserve for their outstanding work and achievements, their businesses benefit too. I'd like to say on behalf of myself and Forces Support that we are delighted with the service provided, you have been exceptional throughout. As we were going through a growth spurt you continued to update the paperwork and right up to the last minute when about 11pm the night before you added in some late developments i sent across.

I've had many bad experiences in the Third sector and only a few good ones, working with you has been the best to date, and not because we won an award as I've always had it in mind to email in and let you know how much I appreciated your attitude and laid back approach to my constant pestering.

I have already recommended AI and will continue to do so, the service was superb.

WHY SHOULD YOU APPOINT AWARDS INTELLIGENCE?

An Awards Intelligence nomination is special. Not only will we save you a great deal of time and hassle, our experts will significantly increase the nominee's chances of success.

Honours Selection Committees judge a candidate's merits based on the nomination put forward. Our nominations are not simply an extended CV, a list of educational achievements, appointments, awards or posts, or a job description. Poor nominations often list these things, and a frequent complaint from the Committees judging the nominations is that the person recommended is "doing no more than their paid job".

Instead, our nominations define what is special about the candidates' achievements and show accurately, memorably and persuasively exactly how and where they have made a difference.
