What does ‘Promoting Opportunity through Social Mobility’ mean for the Queen’s Awards? 

On Promoting Opportunity, the Queen’s awards are interested in social mobility programmes that help people from disadvantaged backgrounds into successful working lives.

Who can enter the Promoting Opportunity through Social Mobility category?

As with all Queen’s Award entries you must be a self-contained enterprise with a minimum of 2 full-time (or part-time equivalent) employees and be based in the UK to enter and file tax returns with HMRC. You’ll also need to demonstrate strong corporate social responsibility.

What us the criteria for this new category?

You could be among the first winners in this brand new category, but you must be able to prove that your social mobility programme has had a positive impact on commercial success over 2 years or over 5 years. For example, you should be able to substantiate that the programme has improved your reputation or led to savings in the business.

What makes a Queen’s Awards ‘Promoting Opportunity through Social Mobility’ winner?

Winners are able to demonstrate that they have had a social mobility programme running for at least 2 years. 

Winners must be able to show improvements in one of the following areas:

• work experience, careers advice or mentoring for young people

• offering non-graduate routes such as traineeships or changing recruitment practice

• giving equal support and progression opportunities to all employees

When is the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise deadline?

The closing date is noon on 12 September 2018, but it can take many weeks to pull the information you need together for such a rigorous award, so don’t leave it too late to give yourself a fighting chance, get started today!
