Outstanding travel gurus flying high

The first two weeks of February are the most popular dates for the UK population to book a summer holiday. The reasons are obvious really, the New Years resolutions are all-but out of the window, the gym clothes have already found their way to the bottom of the wardrobe and everyone is sick to the back teeth of the cold weather!

Whilst you’re in the spirit of fantasising about suntan lotion, crystal-clear seas and sandy beaches, check out these examples of people that have received gongs by making holidays their business.

One of the first items packed in your holiday suitcase must be the trusted travel guide. Hilary Brandt MBE is the founder of British Travel Guides, which was set up in the mid-70s, producing an effective way to research your holiday. After running the company for 35 years Hilary was awarded an honour in 2008 for her services to the travel industry and to charity.

Once your suitcase is packed, the next step is often to get yourself to the airport and board the aeroplane.  There are countless Airline companies which fly all over the world, but I think it would be fair to say that few come close to Emirates. The founding CEO of Emirates is a certain Sir Maurice Flanagan KBE (pictured above) who was awarded the highest accolade by the queen in 2010 for his services to the aviation industry for over half a century.

However, many people avoid the airport when holiday season arrives. Holidaying in the UK is a market that has grown significantly, with ‘staycation’ becoming the latest holiday buzzword for the last few years. More and more people are taking a chance on the weather and visiting all the stunning places here on their doorstep. Indeed, Tracey Halliwell MBE of London and Partners is such an advocate of holidaying in England that she was awarded an MBE for her services to British Tourism in 2014.

These are just a few examples to demonstrate the breadth nominees recognised in the Queen’s honours system year on year. So whilst you’re dreaming of your summer holidays, give a little thought to the one person you know who truly deserves a trip to Buckingham Palace.
