Who are the awards for?
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion is an award for individuals who have played an important role in promoting enterprise skills and supporting entrepreneurs in the UK.
Up to 10 awards are presented each year to individuals who have either given up their time to help potential entrepreneurs in education or in starting a business, or people who work in education, training or youth work to help provide others with the enterprise skills they need to build a business.
2014 Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion Winners:
Jayne Taggart played a central role in the inception of CEA’s soft philanthropic venture capital fund, Venture Causeway. The fund raised £100k to provide capital and mentoring to people living in Coleraine, Northern Ireland.
Professor Mark Hart has researched and taught in the field of SMEs and entrepreneurship for over 30 years. His exceptional research in this area has been utilised to inform high-level government business support policies.
Anne Stonehouse has been instrumental in promoting female enterprise in the Teeside area since 2000. Anne is the former Director of Women into the Network (WIN) organisation and she currently the Chair of the Assist Women’s Network.
What do the winners receive?
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion awards are for life
Winners are invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace, where they receive an engraved crystal chalice.
How does the nomination process work?
You can’t nominate yourself for an award, but you can be put forward by a third-party. There is no entry fee.
A judging panel assess the nominees and makes recommendations to the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee.
This committee then makes their own assessments and presents a list of recommended candidates to the Queen, who ultimately decides the winners.
